3 ways to tackle oily skin

So you're here because of your oily skin, does the constant dabbing, and never ending pimples get you down? Don't fret, you're not alone. There is a common misconception that oily pimply skin is just for teenagers, but really no. Oily skin is apparent in all ages, and just as some people have curly hair and some people have straight- some people have dry skin, some people have oily. Oily skin is caused by over-active sebaceous glands that produce excessive amounts of skin oil, called “sebum.”And often its our genetic make up that determines our skin type, but other factors- like your environment, hormones, and your daily life that can make a difference.  In addition, using to many products on your skin will effect the natural PH and cause an extra production of oil.

Oily skin is the most common skin type of all. And with this oil comes shiny patches, spots and large pores. Oily skin can lead to acne, which will not only affect your appearance but your confidence.

So, how to deal with it.

Now you may think because you have an oily skin that you don't need to moisturise but, oil and hydration are not the same. It may sound odd but keeping the skin properly moisturised is one of the best things you can do for your skin type – if you don’t the surface of your skin will dry out and the skin will produce more oil. Use products which actively tackle this problem. Choose an oil-control moisturizer as this will keep hydration levels up but minimize excess oil. (Try our Clean Skin Tech moisturiser)

Find a product which contains Salicylic. Salicylic is anti inflammatory ingredient that is anti bacterial which helps reduce sebum and dissolves the keratin plugs that block pores. We have a renewal lotion, which is multifunctional, and great for oily and acne prone skin.

Get in the habit of exfoliating at least twice or once a week. This simple step is one of the most important ways to keep your skin healthy and youthful. Regular exfoliating will also get rid of dead skin cells that can stick together or ingrown hairs which clog pores and can lead to breakouts. But always be gentle and don’t over scrub or use harsh chemicals as your skin will only produce more oil to compensate for irritated skin. Try our Exfoliating Cleanser, it contains finely ground quartz, to gentle, mechanically exfoliate dead skin cells from the surface of the skin to give a smoother, brighter result.
